Every student at St. Thomas who is pursuing a business major or minor must provide 40 hours of service to their communities. Over 800 students a year complete this course, which translates to over 32,000 hours of service. Students can provide service consistent with their educational focus, such as preparing marketing plans for a nonprofit; pursuing a particular skill set, such as enhancing their public speaking skills; or engaging in learning objectives that are more attitudinal, such as developing greater comfort with people from other cultures. The choice of what learning to embrace is the students’. All service is provided to nonprofit organizations. Students have completed this course around the globe, across the U.S. and locally.
