Becoming a State Fair Volunteer
New this year: a volunteer video! Learn about the various parts of the booth from Molly Sigler '14. Please watch the above 4-minute video whether you are a new or returning volunteer.
Volunteering at the university's booth at the Minnesota State Fair is a great way to meet others in the university community, and to promote St. Thomas. Past volunteers find the experience rewarding - so much so that teams of families and colleagues have developed over the years.
All faculty, staff, students and alumni are welcome to volunteer. Being a volunteer has privileges, but it also comes with responsibilities. It is expected that all volunteers will:
- Uphold the integrity of the University of St. Thomas; to each visitor, YOU are the face of St. Thomas.
- Treat your fellow booth volunteers and all fairgoers with respect.
All volunteers will receive an admission ticket. Those who volunteer to work during Labor Day weekend (noon Friday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Sept. 1) will receive an extra admission ticket.
This year’s fair runs Thursday, Aug. 21, through Labor Day. Shifts at the booth last three hours and begin at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Up to five people will be assigned to each shift; faculty, staff, students and alumni are welcome to volunteer.
St. Thomas employees wishing to volunteer at the booth during their regular work hours must obtain supervisor approval prior to signing up for a shift. Hourly employees may sign up for one three-hour shift during their regular work hours and will be paid the three hours at the booth plus one additional hour to compensate for travel.
Registration is Open
Starting May 19, UST faculty, staff, students and alumni can register online to help staff the booth during the 2014 Minnesota State Fair.
