Faculty Development Committee


  • to further the professional growth and development of the faculty by initiating, developing, and implementing policies and programs that relate to faculty development, as defined in the Faculty Development section of the Faculty Handbook
  • to receive applications for sabbatical leaves and faculty development grants, to make recommendations to the appropriate university officials for the awarding of leaves and grants, and to award grants directly to the faculty from the funds it controls
  • to act as the nominating committee for the director of Faculty Development by soliciting applications and nominations for the position of director and, after due consideration, presenting its recommendations to the chief academic officer. The chief academic officer will appoint the director from among the committee’s
    nominees, or will ask the committee to continue its search process. The term of the director is three years. A director may be appointed to a second three year term at the discretion of the chief academic officer, who acts after consulting with the Faculty Development Committee.
  • to submit an annual evaluation of the director of Faculty Development to the chief academic officer.
  • to conduct an evaluation of the Faculty Development program at least once every six years, timed, when possible, so that its findings can inform the efforts of a new director.
