UST Nordic Ski Team
About the Ski Team
The UST Nordic Ski team was founded by Steve Assie and Mike Tschida in 2004. Since then the team has continued to grow and provide St. Thomas students with a great way to meet new people while becoming more skillful skiers. Skiers of all levels participate on the ski team, from beginners to Birkie veterans. The team competes in several races and a ski trip every winter.
Mission
The University of St. Thomas Nordic Ski Team is focused on establishing a firm base and providing students of all levels of experience the opportunity to ski. This year, we will be working on turning the team into a competitive one (while still remaining a place for our “social skiers”).
Practice
Off-season training begins in early October. Generally, this consists of weekend jogs with a few practices in the gym during the week. As soon as the snow falls regular season practices will begin! The team skies in parks around the cities during practices such as Como Park and Theodore Wirth Park.
Races
Although races are not mandatory, they are greatly encouraged. This year the ski team will have skiers racing in the following races:
*The Tommie Invitational is a race St. Thomas hosts including ski teams from universities throughout the cities.
