Past Meetings & Events
2005 February Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005- The first event of the Year. The State of the Union was watched at Stub and Herbs. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005- The first meeting of the second semester will be at noon in 203 OEC. There will be pizza as usual. We will be talking about our plans for the upcoming semester as well as the state convention, national convention, and our club constitution. Wednesday, Feb 16, 2005- State Rep. Jeff Johnson announced his candidacy for Attorney General. UST CRs supported him during his press conference. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005- Cheri Pierson Yecke was the guest speaker at our second meeting of the semester. She spoke about many different issues in Minnesota's public education system, and gave told about 3 booklets published by the Center for the American Experiment. She spoke on No Child Left behind, liberalism in schools, and poor school performance. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005- Al Franken spoke over on the Mpls campus. Some of our members went over there and asked him some fun questions. Saturday, February 26, 2005- MN GOP Central Committee Meeting. Once again we were called upon to help with sign-ins. After the event we all went to Dairy Queen. March Thursday, March 10, 2005- We had Michael Brodkorb at our meeting this week. He gave his speech on "Why it Sucks to be a Democrat (Especially in Minnesota)." Thursday, March 17, 2005- We all met for an emergency meeting with regards to the MCR State Convention. Also, the club officially endorsed Tina Quick for state chair. Thursday, April 7, 2005- We had a CRs meeting featuring prominent Republican activist Deb Repya. She started the 'we support our troops, liberate Iraq' campaign. On a side note, our website was also listed in the main internet search engines. April
Friday, April 15, 2005 through Saturday April 16, 2005- We had the MCR state convention. Team Quick was elected for all of our state positions. Everyone worked hard and made the convention flow well. Monday, April 18, 2005- Ann Coulter visited St. Thomas for an extremely popular speech. The auditorium in the OEC was so full that people were turned away. She also met with CRs before the speech, signed some books and papers, and took pictures with everyone. Thursday, April 22, 2005- This week we have The Honorable Jim Heavens, Mayor of Dyersville, Iowa spoke to us at our meeting. He said much about local politics, and how it is to be mayor of a small town. Saturday, April 23, 2005- We attended two District Committee meetings. Tuesday, April 26, 2005- 1:30- Karl Rove talked about the importance of Social Security reform in a conference call at 2:00 at the GOP HQ 6:30- We went to a Senate District 41 Full Committee Dinner. The food was excellent, and speeches were made by the mayors of Bloomington and Edina. Friday, April 29, 2005- The Minnesota College Republicans participated with CRs from across the nation in holding a rally in support of Social Security reform. Congressman Mark Kennedy, State Auditor Pat Anderson, CRNC National Chairman Eric Hoplin, and Center of the American Experiment Senior Fellow Cheri Yecke joined us at our rally in support of reforming Social Security for the next generation of Americans. The event was held in Murray-Herrick 155 at 11:00-11:45 am. Saturday, April 30, 2005- We helped out at the 6th district. Various people gave speeches, including all five candidates running for Congress. We primarily helped Yecke, although I must say that some of us helped the other candidates ensure that they had little or no food left. We went to Sbarro afterwards. May
Tuesday, May 3, 2005- In the morning we went to the John Kerry Town Hall Meeting in St. Paul. Thursday, May 5, 2005- We had our last meeting of the year where we elected next year's club executive board. Congratulations to Tyler Sunderman on his successful reelection, Al Heavens on his election to Vice-Chair, Tim Rudolph on his election to Treasurer, and Emily Regan on her election to Secretary. Also congratulations to everyone who were appointed to other various positions. Saturday, May 7, 2005- Today we helped Kennedy with his 'cinqo' de mayo parade. Tuesday, May 10, 2005- UST CRs End of the year outing! We went tailgating at the Saint Paul Saints game. It was very fun, even with the heavy rain and near-freezing temperatures. It was noted that several students came very close to winning a Saints Gnome, as well. June
Saturday, June 11, 2005- We had a State Central Committee Meeting. After being there for
about 10 hours, volunteers went to Chillis for dinner.Thursday, June 23, 2005 through Saturday June 25, 2005- CRNC National Convention Paul Gourley has become our new National Chairman. Besides the official business, we took a bus ride to and from DC, and went sight seeing. July
Monday, July 4, 2005- We helped SD41 decorate their float, and marched in their parade. There was a fantastic BBQ afterwards, as well.August
Friday, August 19, 2005 through August 20, 2005- Minnesota College Republicans met in St. Cloud for our annual retreat. We had a BBQ that was attended by Mark Kennedy, Cheri Pierson Yecke, and Jim Knoblach. After the BBQ we all went bowling, and the next morning we began our training session. Thursday, August 25, 2005- CR day at the State Fair- CRs helped at the Republican booth at the State Fair. September
Saturday, September 10, 2005- CRs helped at the MN GOP
State Convention CRs put up signs, helped get petitions for the defense
of marriage, and many CRs met some of our elected officials for the
first time.Thursday, September 15, 2005- We had our first CR meeting. Everyone was introduced to CRs, and what we're all about. Also, Jerry Paar and Linda Presthus, the Senate District 41 Co-Chairs gave a brief statement to the UST CRs. Thursday, September 22, 2005- We had a CRs meeting. Our guest speaker was Eric Hoplin, the Deputy Chair the Republican Party of Minnesota. Saturday, September 24, 2005- The U of M CRs had their homecoming parade, and many other CRs joined them. Friday, September 30, 2005- UST CRs helped out at the Hope for the City Banquet, where Gov. Tim Pawlenty was the keynote speaker. October
Thursday, October 6, 2005- Eric Hoplin came to UST to
dominate a debate on the social security problem. We had a CRs meething
today. We had Erik Paulson, the MN House Majority Leader speak at
today's meeting.Saturday, October 8, 2005- Many of us went door knocking for voter identification purposes. Monday, October 10, 2005- David Limbaugh spoke at North Western College. Friday, October 14, 2005- P J O'Rourke will be speaking at the Center for the American experiement. Admission is $10. Contact Tyler Sunderman if you wish to attend. Monday, October 17, 2005- Deena Burnett, wife of Tom Burnett, who was a passenger on flight 93 on September 11, 2001, will be speaking at St. John's. She had phone convorsations with her husband on the flight which caused them to storm the cockpit and crash the plane before it hit its intended target. The mayor of St. Paul, Randy Kelly, was the guest speaker. November
11/5/2005 - 11/6/2005 Campaigning: We were out in force supporting local candidates for the November 8th election.Thursday, November 10, 2005- Phil Krinkie came to speak at our regular meeting. Saturday, November 13, 2005- The "Cookout with Kennedy" event went very well! Kennedy came and spoke for a bit. We taunted back and forth in light of the Tommie/Johnnie football game. Students from the U of M, St. John's, Crown, Augsburg, UST, and others came out to support Congressman Kennedy. Past Meetings & Events 2006 January

03/02/2006 Thursday Meeting: We had a CR meeting at noon in OEC 203.03/03/2006 - 03/04/2006 MNCR State Convention: The MNCR State Convention was held at the Hilton in Minneapolis. Things went very well! 03/07/2006 Precinct Caucuses: The UST College Republicans showed up in force and had a grand time approving and striking measures during their caucus. 03/14/2006 Tuesday Meeting: We had a CR meeting at noon in OEC 203. Our speakers were Emily Kennedy and Annette Meeks. 03/30/2006 Thursday Meeting: We had a CR meeting at noon in OEC 203. Our speaker was UST Alumni Rep. Paul Kohls. April
04/04/2006 Michelle Malkin: Michelle Malkin spoke on campus at noon in JRC 126. Mrs. Malkin has lead a career in newspaper journalism for many years, writing for the Los Angeles Daily News, the Seattle Times, and writes columns which are syndicated to nearly 200 papers nationwide. In June 2004 she launched a web log (blog), MichelleMalkin.com,
which averages roughly 100,000 unique visitors per day. She is also a
FOX News contributor and has published three best selling books, Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild(2005), In Defense of Internment: The Case for 'Racial Profiling' in World War II and the War on Terror(2004), and Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to our Shores(2002).04/09/2006 UST Neighborhood Clean-Up and MN Swarm Game: The UST CR's had a great turn out for the Community Cleanup service project, and we're all finished up with our service hours for the semester. Later that night we had a club social event at the Minnesota Swarm LaCrosse game. 04/11/2006 Tuesday Meeting: We had a CR meeting at noon in OEC 203. Our speaker was John Caile. 04/22/2006 Senate District 41 Convention: SD 41 has supported the UST CRs in numerous ways. It is time for us to give back to them the best way CR's can, with volunteer hours! They need volunteers for their convention to help out with various tasks. If you are able to display your gratitude for them this Saturday morning, we would love to have you join us. There will be a complimentary lunch provided. 04/25/2006 Tuesday Meeting: We will have a CR meeting at noon in OEC 203. Our guest speaker will be the Honorable Mayor of Dyersville, Iowa (who also happens to be the father of our Vice Chair Al Heavens). Come for pizza, pop, advice from a experienced grassroots politician, and stories about Al! 04/25/2006 Phone Calling for Mark Kennedy: We will be participating in the Kennedy for Senate CR Challenge. The club that makes the most calls between now and June 1st wins a pizza party and photo with Congressman Kennedy. May
05/04/2006 Last Meeting of the Year: At
our last meeting of the semester, MN Speaker of the House came by to
share some thoughts with us. We also elected our new executive
board and said goodbye to Chair Emily Regan as she moves on to serve as
Executive Director of MN College Republicans.05/07/2006 End of the Year Social: We went to see “United 93,” the film about the flight on 9/11 that fought back, but crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Afterwards, we grabbed dinner at Snuffy’s Malt Shop. June
06/01-03/2006 MN GOP State Convention:
We served as pages checking credentials, helping with registration,
counting ballots, working at the MNCR table selling “Platform
Republican” buttons to the delegates, and swarmed the stage to
congratulate newly endorsed Gov. Pawlenty and Lt. Gov. Molnau! (Some
CRs were pictured in local papers!)6/10/2006 Super Saturday Phone Banking: This event will take place in Minneapolis from 10:00 until 2:00. 6/13/2006 Pawlenty for Governor: Attend this event to help raise funds for Governor Pawlenty. We will be leaving at 4:30. July
07/21-23/2006 Minnesota Academy for Conservative Leadership Training Seminar: The Minnesota Academy for Conservative Leadership Training Seminar is open to conservative candidates, campaign leadership, and activists to help advance the conservative movement in Minnesota. Attendees will learn intense campaign tactics that will help get candidates elected. The seminar is from July 21-23 in St. Paul and the cost is $25.
