History
2006
A glorious year and historic year. Rick Fryklund becomes our great president.
The Fight Club was in trouble, we're still on probation for service hours. But truly, even though we're the "fight club", all we want is to be loved... With Rick's hands on the reigns he steers the mighty stallion chess club away from danger - the chess club gets off probation!
We attended a dance at a children's wreck center, helped out and played chess with the kids. It was a wonderful way to give back to the community and fulfill our service hours.

Our beloved advisor, Dr. Arkady Shemyakin
ties for 1st in the Minnesota Open
and is crowned the Minnesota Chess Champion
And the year has just started. So stay tune, and see all the fun, excitement, and adventure the gods have in store for us.
2005
Tim Barnaby becomes club president in spring. Under his leadership the club had a great semester and recruited lots of new members! The Fight Club also starts Chess Club Wednesdays, where every Wednesday they teach chess to anyone at the Commuter Center.
Bloody gore! The club did service hours in spring but they weren't reported... So because the Fight Club was bad it got put on probation. However, the Fight Club fought the law and it won!
In the fall the club launched it's brand new web site, featuring Mr. T, who said, when asked for a comment, that "I pitty the foo who don't play chess."
Special thanks to Catherine Schmitz the President of Ad Fed, for advising us in the Fall on our Most Excellent Fight Club Chipotle promotion.
2004
On November 8th, Minnesota Chess Champion Alex Balandin battle against 20 St. Thomas students in the first ever SIMU event in St. Thomas history. What an amazing experience! ALL OUT WAR, UNLIKE ANYTHING ST. THOMAS HAS VER SEEN! The event was a big success and was featured in the school news paper.

With the generous support from the University, the club gets funding for chess equipment and coaching. The club also competes in it's first tournament, the Minnesota Open held in Bloomington, where our president Mike Bykow got crushed by a 6 year old.
2003
The Royal Fight Club is founded by Mike Bykow in December of 2003 to bring Chess to St. Thomas and the community. Together with Kevin Clark and with support from Dr. Arkady Shemyakin the club recruits members and holds it's first meetings.
