news and updates!
October 26th, 2008 --
Although this site has been unfortunately lacking in updates due to Rachel's busy schedule, the sailing team has had an active semester so far! We hosted our first regatta (the St. Thomas Cup) the first weekend of the school year, to rave reviews by all teams attending (Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kansas). We have been busy with many other regattas as well, including Fall Fury (Wisconsin), Davis Cup (Iowa), Sloop Championships (Detroit), Streufert Cup (Minnesota), and Womens (Wisconsin). Results coming soon! We now have one "regular season" regatta left for the semester, Area West, at which we hope to qualify for Timme Angsten, since we had such a fabulous time last year.
As far as this website goes, our "meet the team" page has been updated... so that's pretty exciting, go ahead and check it out.
March 27th, 2008 --
The Hawkeye Invitational, originally to be hosted by the University of Iowa this upcoming weekend, has unfortunately been cancelled due to ice. Icy conditions are plaguing much of the MCSA right now, with regatta cancellations and changes of venue throwing everyone into a tizzy. The USTST is currently holding dryland/classroom practices ("chalk talks") due to ice on Lake Minnetonka--but these are turning into a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the racing rules of sailing, sailing basics for newbies, and whatever other topics our wonderful coaches educate us on!
Also, the "Regatta Schedule" page has now been updated to reflect this semester's schedule.
February 14th, 2008 --
Last weekend, commodore Medora and captains Brandon and Rachel represented the team at the 2008 MCSA Midwinters conference in Chicago. They stayed at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, hung out with the University of Minnesota, and scheduled regattas for the 2008 season. The schedule will be up on the website as soon as possible. Exciting news: St. Thomas is hosting a regatta in September!
Other recent happenings: the Activity Fair on Tuesday was a great success; team dinner and information session for new participants tonight at Medora's!
