Fall 2009 Description for SOCI 251

Race and ethnicity as significant components of U.S. social
structure; the cognitive and normative aspects of culture
which maintain and effect varying manifestations of social
distance, tension, prejudice and discrimination between
majority and minorities at both micro and macro levels,
nationally and internationally. This course meets
a requirement in American Cultural Studies and Justice and
Peace Studies and fulfills the Human Diversity requirement
in the core curriculum.
Prerequisite: sophomore standing
