The University of St. Thomas

Declared AFTER April 2008

Communication & Journalism Major

The new COJO major and minor are intended for students who are declaring their program after April 2008.  Both the major and minor offer significant flexibility, letting students select courses that best meet their needs.

Our new programs reflect a “converged” world, where communication and media forms overlap and saturate the culture.  Profound changes are occurring in the realm of communication, and we have developed a curriculum that prepares students to communicate effectively across a wide spectrum of human relationships that are continually shaped by technology.

The new programs break down old categories, require common core courses for all our students and offer students room to build individual concentrations in specialty areas.

Therefore, in completing the new COJO major and minor planning forms, students are asked to write a short statement explaining how the courses they have selected relate to one another, create a coherent area of emphasis in the major, and relate to their educational and career goals.
