Professional experience:
Reporter and editor, the Associated Press, the New London (Conn.) Day, the Westerly (R.I.) Sun and the Spectator newspapers of Columbus, Ohio.

Scholarship and service:
Professor Connery is an authority on the history, nature and practice of literary journalism, and he edited and wrote A Sourcebook of American Literary Journalism in 1992.  More recently (2011), he is the author of Journalism and Realism: Rendering American Life, which explores the relationship between realism and journalism in 19th century America.  He also co-authored Writing Across the Media, an introductory textbook.  He is book review editor of Literary Journalism Studies, the journal of the International Association for the Study of Literary Journalism, and has been book review editor of American Journalism, the journal of the American Journalism Historians Association.  Connery served as president of that association and is also a past president of the Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. 

At UST:
Professor Connery joined UST in 1982.  He was dean of UST's College of Arts & Sciences for eight years.
