Professor O'Donnell currently teaches Editing, Writing and Designing for the Web, Mass Communication and Society, and Visual Communication.

Education:
B.A., Central College
M.S., Iowa State University

Professional experience:
Twenty-five years as a sports reporter, editor and page designer at papers such as the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Chicago Tribune and the Quad-City Times of Davenport, Iowa.

Scholarship and service:
Professor O'Donnell is co-author of The Editor's Toolbox (Iowa State University Press), a textbook on editing with Buck Ryan of the University of Kentucky.  He has presented sessions for the National Student Press Association workshop, refereed conference papers for the Visual Communications Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and consulted on scholastic journalism with the St. Paul Academy-Summit School.

At UST:
Professor O'Donnell joined UST in 1999.  He is advisor to The Aquin, St. Thomas' award-winning weekly newspaper.
