Professor Cragan currently teaches Communication Theory, Small-Group Communication and Public Speaking.

Scholarship and service:
Professor Cragan is interested in teaching students how to use communication theories to solve real-world problems.  He believes "there is nothing more practical than a good communication theory."

He teaches group decision-making courses for Illinois firefighter-paramedics and is a communication consultant to a number of Fortune-100 companies.

His recent publications include the sixth edition of his book Communication in Small Groups:   Theory, Process, Skills, published by Wadsworth and co-authored with with David W. Wright and Chris R. Kasch, the co-authored article "Defending Symbolic Convergence Theory From An Imaginary Gunn" in Quarterly Journal of Speech, and the co-authored chapter "Three Decades of Developing, Grounding and Using Symbolic Convergence Theory (SCT)," in Communication Yearbook.

At UST:
Professor Cragan joined UST in 2004.  He currently serves as assistant chair of the department.
