Scholarship and service:
Professor Guan's research focuses on the use of communicative messages during social interactions. She is interested in how different individual and social factors influence communication outcomes in interpersonal, intercultural and organizational contexts. Professor Guan has published articles in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Journal of Language and Social Interaction, Conflict Resolution Quarterly, Communication Research Reports, Journal of Intercultural and International Communication, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research and Chinese Journal of Communication. She has presented her research to the National Communication Association, the International Communication Association and the Northwestern Communication Conference. Professor Guan has also been involved in training and consulting with academic professionals and international students on cultural awareness and communication skills.
At UST:
Professor Guan joined UST in 2008. She is co-advisor to the Communication Club.
