
UST Chemistry researchers Melissa Joyce and Greg Crane received 1st and 3rd place awards, respectively, at the 2009 MRSEC Summer Undergraduate Research Expo. This event highlights undergraduate research from 15 different departments and programs at the U of MN and several other colleges in the Twin Cities, including UST. Of the 58 poster presentations in the Chemistry section of the Expo, 27 were presented by students in the UST Chemistry research program.

Joyce's project "A Computational Study of TiH5+ and CH5+" was completed under the direction of Dr. Joe Brom. Crane's project, "Quantitative PCR Analysis of mRNA Concentrations in Brain Cells of Trangenic Alzheimer's Disease Mice" was pursued under the direction of Dr. Kathy Olson.
In all, over 50 students participated in research projects with UST Chemistry faculty this summer.
