What have you done since graduating from UST?
Since graduating from St. Thomas, I finished my degree in education.  I student taught at St. Thomas Academy with Lori Pearce teaching general and honors chemistry.  It was a great experience and I leaned a great deal.  After finishing my student teaching I started teaching at Johnson High School in St. Paul.  This is my 5th year teaching chemistry, but I have also taught anatomy and physiology, 9th grade physical science and health sciences.  I also coach cheerleading during the fall and winter and this keeps me very busy with lots of after school time with students.

Why did I major in chemistry?
I came to major in chemistry in a strange way.  My first career aspiration was pharmacy.  When I took on the job as a pharmacy technician I decided this was not the path for me, but I enjoyed all of the chemistry classes I had taken over the years.  I enjoyed the aspect of teaching and helping others so I decided to major in chemistry and education.  Dr. Boyd was the person who guided me to finish my major in chemistry and also education, so I would have many opportunities if I ever wanted a career change from teaching.

My experience at UST and comments for students:
My experience at St. Thomas was outstanding.  The relationships I made with the professors and fellow chemistry students was one of the best parts of my experience at St. Thomas.  The professors were there to help you every step of the way through college and when they say they want to help you during their office hours they mean it.  They know you by name and want you to succeed.  My advice for current UST students is to use all of the resources available to you and enjoy your time at this wonderful establishment.  Get to know your professors they are wonderful people and they are a wealth of information now and for your future.
