Barbara is the Special Education Off Campus Cohort Recruitment Coordinator and Marketing Director.  This role allows her to develop reduced-tuition rate off campus cohort opportunities that are conveniently located in the surrounding suburbs (log onto www.sthomas.edu/education/offcampus for current and upcoming cohorts) and to showcase and market programs that are focused on research based applied practice taught by nationally recognized faculty known for their area of expertise.  

As part of this team, Barbara is spearheading the Supervising Paraprofessionals Certificate; Institute classes will begin summer 2013. Barbara also teaches classes, advises students and supports them as they progress toward obtaining a Masters.

Prior to coming to UST, Barbara worked for 19 years at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).  At MDE she worked to develop a statewide infrastructure of staff development and support for paraprofessionals,  focused on state wide assessment, school improvement and staff development and training.  Barbara’s career has also included teaching elementary students with special needs in St. Paul Schools and working as Assistant Director of Special Education at Rum River Special Education Cooperative.  Barbara continues to work with schools to support teachers and paraprofessionals.
