I previously worked at the Mayo Clinic as the Program Director for Minority Recruitment. My primary duties included active recruitment at national and regional fairs, design of recruitment materials, serving on task force to attract, recruit and maintain students of color and investigative interviewing of students at post-baccalaureate, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels. Upon moving to Minneapolis, I worked as an Education Representative for the Medicare contractor. This job challenged my communication skills as I traveled the state explaining the sometimes complex and technical Medicare policies and changes not only to the Medicare beneficiaries, but to the hospitals and nursing homes providing services to those beneficiaries. Now at College of Education, Leadership and Counseling I have the pleasure of meeting prospective student and share the opportunities offered by our 28 Teacher Licensure, 15 Masters and 3 Doctoral programs. With my background and training in Human Resources, I am somewhat an anomaly as a recruiter: for me, it’s all about the fit. It is my job to give prospective students all of the information they need to decide if we are the right fit for their present needs and their future goals.
