John Conbere began his career at an alternative high school, and later served as an Episcopal parish priest.  Both were expressions of serving people in need, educationally and spiritually. Over the years he found that the most satisfying work is helping people in need by changing the workplace into an environment that is healthier and more efficient, which led to his consulting and teaching in organization development.

He began his academic career with interest in conflict management – mediation, developing conflict management systems, workplace conflict. Working in France and Ukraine led him to become fascinated by how culture shapes how people manage conflict, and everything else. Teaching in the doctoral program furthered interest in how perform research, especially how our beliefs about reality and how people’s perception of reality shapes the way they conduct their research.

His interest in organization development includes working with all organizations, not just businesses.  Most of his consulting is with educational, health care and non-profit organizations. He works closely with the organizational change group at ISEOR, in Lyon, France – the group that developed the Socio-Economic Approach to Management (SEAM) and the consulting practice based on SEAM.

  • Fulbright Senior Specialist, 2009, Used to assist in the development of a mediation center at Kyiv-Mohyla Business School in Kiev, Ukraine, including designing and presenting training in workplace mediation
  • Open Society Institute & Soros Foundation: Academic Fellowship Program: Named International Scholar for 2010-2011 to assist faculty development at National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Kiev, Ukraine.
  • Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR): Member of Board of Directors 2002 – 2006. Vice President of Board of Directors, 2002 – 2003.
