‌The phrase “HR Partner” has become increasingly common over the past two decades. But many different HR leaders and professionals might describe the concept differently. In addition, most definitions are focused on one or two key dimensions of partnership, and as a result may miss some of the most important and relevant elements.

After over twenty years of consulting and publishing his break-through book Beyond HR with co-author John Boudreau, Pete Ramstad has spent the past seven plus years looking at the key issues facing the HR function as the Vice President of HR (and Business Development) for The Toro Company.  As a result, he has a unique perspective and insights into the challenges facing HR functions and HR professionals alike. In his presentation, he will share a new model of HR partnership that has resulted from integrating his consulting, research and HR leadership experiences.

About the speaker

Pete Ramstad is the Vice President for Human Resources and Business Development for The Toro Company in Bloomington, MN. In his role, he has overall responsibility for the human resources function at Toro, which has more than 5,000 employees and significant operations in the US, Mexico, Europe and Asia. In addition, he leads Toro’s business development team that strives to increase Toro’s growth through strategic, value adding acquisitions.

Prior to joining Toro, Mr. Ramstad had spent 25 years in consulting, the first nine with a large CPA firm, and then 16 years with Personnel Decisions International (PDI) where he had both administrative roles (including Chief Financial Officer) and consulted extensively with clients on strategy, leadership and HR functional issues.

During his tenure at PDI, he was able to partner significantly with Prof. John Boudreau (formerly of Cornell University and now with University of Southern California and the Center for Effective Organizations.) As a result of this partnership, they wrote several articles together and the book Beyond HR, which was published by Harvard Business School Press.
