Douglas F. Warring, PhD, is a Professor of Teacher Education and the Director of Continuing Education in the School of Education with a collateral appointment in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of St. Thomas. He has a Ph.D. in Educational and Social Psychology, a MA in Education, and BA in Psychology and Sociology. He has previously served as a Program Chair, Director of Student Teaching, and Associate Dean of Outreach at St. Thomas. He was a licensed psychologist and prior to his employment at St. Thomas he taught social studies in high school, as well as teaching for other colleges/universities. 

Warring serves as a member of the Board of Examiners of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. He is a past President of the Minnesota Association of Teacher Educators and former member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Teacher Educators and of the Minnesota Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and currently serves on the North American Chapter of the World Council on Curriculum and Instruction Board of Directors.    

He has presented at the international, national, state, and local levels. His international work includes teaching or presenting in Australia, Bahamas, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, Jamaica, Norway, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, and Venezuela. He has also consulted for numerous schools and organizations including Northwest Airlines and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Doug’s primary areas of focus for research, writing, and teaching are diversity, accreditation, teacher development, multicultural education, and critical reflection.

Warring served 23 years in the U.S. military, including experience as a squad leader, section chief, leadership trainer, an equal opportunity instructor, and instructor trainer/evaluator, the position from which he retired as a Master Sergeant.
