Memo to the President:  Priorities for the Common Good

What would you say to the president if you had twenty minutes alone with him?  What should his top priorities be as he enters the White House?  What public policies would you advocate he adopt?  Why? These three scholar-commentators shared their "memos to the President" and discussed why they believed adoption of their recommendations were important to advance the common good: 

 - John L. Allen, Jr., Senior Correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter; author of the forthcoming The Future Church:  How Ten Trends are Revolutionizing the Catholic Church; 

- Andrew J. Bacevich, Professor of International Relations and History, Boston University; author of The Limits of Power:  American Exceptionalism (Henry Holt, 2008)

- David Blankenhorn, Founder and President, Institute for American Values; author of Thrift:  A Cyclopedia (Templeton Foundation Press 2008)
