Catholic Business Education Project

Introduction

A business school at a Catholic university cannot maintain its institutional identity unless it engages students with the Catholic social tradition broadly understood and management theory and practice. In a survey of faculty in Catholic business schools there was general agreement to this statement. Yet, many of the faculty did not see that they had the background and knowledge to convey this tradition in their courses. This lack of familiarity was not specifically a non-Catholic problem. Some Catholics in the survey stated that they did not think the church had an intellectual tradition, and seemed wary of or confused by the phrase "Catholic intellectual identity."

In order to begin to overcome this problem we provide course syllabi, lectures, articles and papers that engage Catholic social thought and various issues in management theory and practice. Below are several categories within the university that one can encounter the understanding of management and the Catholic/Christian social thought. The materials presented below are merely a start. If you have any materials you would like to post on this site please contact Michael Naughton at mjnaughton@stthomas.edu.
