Catholic Social Teaching and Education

The Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Education program was created in response to a task force led by John R. Roach, former archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The task force encouraged Catholic schools to integrate Catholic social teaching into the whole curriuculum, rather than isolate it in theology classes. In order for this to take place, teachers need to learn the Catholic Social Tradition and to have ready access to educational materials for classroom use. This program establishes links between Catholic social teaching and various disciplines. To date, it has sponsored curriculum writing workshops, Catholic social teaching courses, roundtable discussions, and conferences, offering theoretical unerpinnings of Catholic social teaching and its concrete applications.

"If the Church is to be effective as 'salt and light' for the world of the 21st century, we must renew and deepen our commitment to sharing the Catholic social tradition."
