Financial Aid

Dear Catholic Studies students:

Each year, through the generosity of our benefactors, we have funds available to award as scholarships to our officially declared majors and minors.

In the past, we have awarded a fairly large number of small scholarships on a semester by semester basis. For various reasons, the department has agreed that, beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, we will award a smaller number of more substantive scholarships. (These awards will be made for the entire year, which means that we will not have another round of applications in the fall.) Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need who have been active participants in the Catholic Studies program.

We will continue to offer small subsidies to students spending a semester at the Bernardi residence in Rome.

I am writing to you today to invite you to apply for a Catholic Studies general scholarship or for the Bernardi residence subsidy. On this page, you will find a couple of forms that you may use to complete an application.

Here is what you need to do to apply for the general scholarship:

  1. Fill out the general scholarship application form.
  2. Ask one professor who knows you to complete the recommendation form.
  3. Write a short essay responding to the questions on the form.

If you want to apply for a Bernardi residence subsidy (for Spring 2018), use the Rome Subsidy form and follow the same steps.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, May 4, 2017. We expect to notify the award recipients before the end of finals week. Questions may be referred to me or to Ann Serdar.
