2013 Post Graduation Survey Report

The information in this report covers alumni who graduated from an undergraduate program during the 2012-2013 academic year (December 2012, May and July 2013). The survey was sent out to 1,290 alumni November 2013 through February 2014. Of these, 656 (50.85%) responded to the survey.

Below you will find overall statistics for the undergraduate class of 2013. For breakdown by departments and majors, as well as complete job and graduate school listings, download the complete report (PDF).

Understanding the Survey

Various options are available to students after graduation. Many seek Full-Time employment and some find Part-Time work as they attend graduate school, navigate career paths, or explore options. Others volunteer, enlist in the military, or attend graduate school full-time. Employment, graduate school, and salary rates will differ depending upon major and career field of choice. These numbers as a whole tell only part of the story about what St. Thomas graduates are doing. Breakdowns by colleges and departments are available on pages 4-5 and 8-9 of the complete report (PDF). Organizations where graduates found employment are available starting on page 10. Graduate school listings are found on page 32.

The best way to use this report is to examine information listed under individual colleges and departments you are interested in learning more about. By looking at each discipline separately you will be able to understand entry-level options, salaries, internship experience, and graduate school requirements unique to each career or vocational path.

Contact methods and participation rates

We begin contacting graduates in November using a variety of methods. During the execution of each contact method we exclude those we already heard from during a previous method. We begin with emails to UST accounts as well as other email addreses on file. We then send out a post card to the last known mailing address. The post card contains a link to the online survey and a requst from the postal service to provide any change or forwarding address. Finally we mail a paper survey to any last known or corrected address. Email reminders are sent up to 4 times during this process.

The chart below shows the various methods, when they were executed, how many graduates received contact, and the response rate of each method. The right-most column gives the percentage by which a particular method contributed to the total response rate. For example, responses from email contributed to 83.08 percent of the overall responses.

 SentResponse% of Total Response
Email Invites (10/28/13) 1,228 545 (44.38%) 83.08%
Online via Link (11/21/13) 824 21 (2.55%) 3.20%
Paper Surveys (12/16/13) 731 90 (12.31%) 13.72%
Graduating Class (9/2012 - 8/2013) 1,290 656 (50.85%) 100%
