Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when do I get my ID?

If you attend Orientation, you will receive your Tommie eXpress Card from your orientation leader at the end of your session.

Other registered students and staff may get their photos taken and pick up their cards at the Card Office (St. Paul Campus, MHC 101) or the Law School Building (Minneapolis Campus, MSL 252).

EXpress transactions can be made at both locations.

Note: Only currently registered students and current faculty and staff are eligible for UST IDs.

What do I do if I lose my card?

If your Tommie eXpress Card is lost or stolen, immediately report the loss to the St. Paul Card Office, 651-962-6069, or the Public Safety and Security Office, 651-962-5100, so that the card can be invalidated and prevent unauthorized use. There is a $15.00 charge for replacement cards.

What if my card stops working?

Call or stop by the St. Paul Card Office (651-962-6069) or the Minneapolis Public Safety Desk (651-962-4100) for assistance in finding the issue with your current ID card. There is no charge for reissued cards if your bar code or magnetic strip is no longer transferring the data it stores. The old card MUST be returned to receive a new one at no charge.

What is an eXpress Account?

EXpress accounts are debit plan spending accounts available to registered students, faculty and staff. Open an account by filling out an eXpress Account Agreement form, available at the St. Paul Card Office, the Minneapolis Public Safety Desk, or download an application now. (pdf) Students may pre-pay the amount, or have it charged to their tuition account. Pre-payments of $50.00 or more are eligible for a bonus.

Faculty and staff must pre-pay or have payroll deduction and all deposits are eligible for a bonus.

Care and use of your card

Your Tommie eXpress Card remains the property of the University of St. Thomas and is for use solely by the cardholder. Tampering with or altering your Tommie eXpress Card may result in fines and loss of privileges.

What about access?

Only authorized students and staff can access the residence halls or administrative buildings. If you are authorized, you may use your Tommie eXpress Card to access these areas.

What about meal plans?

The University of St. Thomas is pleased to offer several meal plans to both residents and commuters. The University of St. Thomas offers block or declining meal plans and are combined with flex dollar allowances. Meal plan participants are welcome to use their board meals in The View (Anderson Student Center), the BINZ (South Campus)or Food for Thought (Minneapolis). Flex dollars are for use in any food service location and are not valid anywhere else on campus. They must be used by the end of the semester and do not carry over to the next semester. For more information on meal plans and dining services visit: www.stthomas.edu/dining

What is the difference between flex and eXpress?

Flex dollars are attached to meal plans. Flex dollars can be used only to purchase food items at The View, T's, Binz, Food for Thought, Beakers Coffee Cart, Brady Coffee Cart, Summit Market Place, Pit Stop, Scooter's, The Loft . Flex dollars expire at the end of the semester and any remaining balance will be forfeited. Most students check their balances the last month of the semester and spend accordingly. More information on resident and non-resident meal plans can be found on the food services web page at: www.stthomas.edu/dining/plans/default.html

Express dollars and/or accounts are attached to your ID card and are similar to pre-paid debit cards. You can make deposits with cash, check or charge your student account. Cash and Check deposits over $50 will receive a 5% cash bonus at the time of the deposit. You can make deposits at the Card Office in MHC 101 (St Paul), the Public Safety Desk (Minneapolis) or by mail.

Express dollars can be used to purchase your books and supplies, clothing and gifts at the UST Bookstores, food items at any of the on- campus dining locations, and many vending machines across campus. Unused eXpress dollars will stay on your card until you transfer or graduate.

Where can I use an eXpress account?

The eXpress account can be used at any Food Service outlet (students with Flex accounts will use those first), the Bookstore, the Box Office, Hairworks, selected vending machines, and laundry machines (for resident students). Off-campus, you may use your UST eXpress account at any of our approved vendors.
