Campus Ministry joyfully invites our whole campus community to join us for the opening of the Year of Faith, celebrated at the 12:10 p.m. Mass in the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday, October 11.  Join us for an open house reception in the Campus Ministry office (ASC 207) following the Mass to celebrate with cupcakes, coffee & hot chocolate.

Thursday, October 11 marks the opening of the “Year of Faith” declared by Pope Benedict XVI one year ago.  The Year of Faith begins October 11 on the 50^th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20^th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church through November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.  In the apostolic letter, “Porta Fidei” the Holy Father reminds us:

“We cannot accept that salt should become tasteless or the light be kept hidden (cf. Mt 5:13-16). The people of today can still experience the need to go to the well, like the Samaritan woman, in order to hear Jesus, who invites us to believe in him and to draw upon the source of living water welling up within him (cf. Jn 4:14). We must rediscover a taste for feeding ourselves on the word of God, faithfully handed down by the Church, and on the bread of life, offered as sustenance for his disciples (cf. Jn 6:51).”

With the declaration of the Year of Faith, we are all invited to acquaint ourselves with the rich tradition of the Christian life, whether we are long time believers or just beginning the journey.  Acceptance of the Christian life should change us and it demands action.  Be ready to give a reason for your joy, through which you may catch fish in the net of the Gospel.
