Fall Retreat in Daily Living: Reflections on the Apostles’ Creed

This five-week Retreat in Daily Living is designed to deepen our understanding of the basic elements of our Christian faith through the vehicle of the Apostles’ Creed, a creedal formulation widely accepted by many Christian denominations. The series will encourage participants to reflect on their understanding and embrace of the statements of the Creed, as well as well as on those elements that may give them difficulty.

In a Retreat in Daily Living, participants commit themselves to a half-hour of prayer each day and go about their daily lives as usual. Prayer material relating to the theme of the retreat is provided for each day.

In addition to a daily period of personal prayer, the participants in the retreat will meet weekly. During these gatherings they will share their experience of the past week’s prayer in small groups, and Professor Susan Stabile will offer input on portion of the Creed that participants will pray with during the upcoming week. She will also talk about some of the dynamics of this type of retreat experience and address any questions that arise during the participants’ prayer. Each session runs from 12:30-1:30 on the Wednesday listed below and includes lunch. (Location: Law School Room 446)

The dates and subject of weekly group sessions are:

9/14 Credo: What Does it Mean to Have a Creed

9/21 I Believe in God…

9/28 I Believe in Jesus Christ…

10/5 I Believe in the Holy Spirit…

10/12 I Believe in the Holy Catholic Church…

This retreat is designed for those beginning to pray in a personal way as well as for those who have been praying for years. It is designed for those who recite the creed with fervor and those who stand silently when it is proclaimed during Mass. It is designed for anyone who wants to reflect more deeply on what it is they give their heart to.

As lunch will be served, please RVSP to Bethany Fletcher at moel1755@stthomas.edu.
