Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)

RCIA is a collaborative process of study, exploration, and faith formation for non-baptized adults interested in membership in the Catholic church as well as previously baptized Christians who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

What Topics Are Discussed?
The sessions cover a range of topics because our Catholic beliefs encompass the whole of our lives. Topics include: God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Scripture and Tradition, Church History, Sin and Grace, the Sacraments, and Mary and the Saints.
What Does the RCIA Involve?
We meet on Sunday after the 11:00 a.m. Mass from October - April, excluding school breaks. There is also an overnight retreat in November and a Morning of Reflection prior to the reception of the sacraments.
Am I Obligated to Become a Catholic?
There is no pressure exerted on anyone to become a Catholic. We respect the conscience and decision of the inquirer.
Do I Need a Sponsor?
All participants selct a sponsor as a companion in the process. A sponsor will be a guide and an example. A sponsor must be at least 16, confirmed, and a practicing Catholic. Sponsors will: be able to meet occasionally with the candidates and attend various sessions throughout the process, be present at the retreat, be a resource about the Catholic tradition, and be a guide to various activities.
