Schulze School of Entrepreneurship
About our Benefactor, Richard Schulze
Richard Schulze is founder and chairman of Best Buy Co. Inc., a Fortune 100 company and North America’s No. 1 specialty retailer of consumer electronics, personal computers, entertainment software and major appliances. Schulze is responsible for board activities as well as future leadership development and long-range strategic planning.
Schulze has devoted more than half of his life to the consumer electronics industry. His wide-ranging career encompasses technical experience, retail and distributor sales, independent manufacturer's representation, and management.
This experience, coupled with an aggressive, contagious and enthusiastic management style, led Schulze in 1966 to found Sound of Music—the chain of 11 stereo component retail stores that in 1983 became Best Buy. Schulze ended his 35-year tenure as chief executive officer in June 2002.
Schulze Hall, home of the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship, was funded through a $50-million gift made in 2000 by Schulze and his late wife, Sandra.
