Can letting employees work remotely lead to success?

In the Star Tribune's weekly "Ask the Consultant" column, Colin McDonald asks if today's technology allows a business to run succesfully with employees working remotely. Dr. Mary Maloney, associate professor of management at the Opus College of Business, says that there are definite advantages to remote work, but that "none of the challenges of effective management go away, and some things get tougher." She then elucidates a few of these challenges, and how a skillful manager might deal with them.
