Unconventional tenants moving to suburban malls

Regional malls once were home to high-status prestige stores, with the discount stores operating off-site, said St. Thomas' Brennan. But now these, too, are moving into the malls themselves.
Woodbury has recently opened six used-clothing stores, most of them in malls.
"Discounting is no longer considered bad but is just part of the normal process," said Brennan. "Who would have ever thought Southdale would end up with a Marshalls?"
If the poor economy continues, said Brennan, watch for the stores on the lowest rungs of the status ladder - dollar stores and pawnshops.
