Student Policies

In addition to student policies governing all Opus College of Business graduate students, the UST MBC program (MBC) has established the following policies that are specific to the program.

Admissions Procedure


The MBC program requires the following application materials in order to make an admissions decision:

All applicants will include the following:

  • Application Form and Fee
  • Résumé that reflects a minimum of two years full-time work experience.
  •  Transcripts: official copies of all undergraduate and graduate work.

 Degree applicants will also include:

  • Official GMAT or GRE test reports.
  • Personal essay.

Certificate applicants will schedule:

  • Writing assessment.

Additional requirements for international applications include:

  • Transcript/Marksheet from International University
  • Diploma from undergraduate degree
  • Transcript Evaluation Fee
  • English translation of transcript (if applicable)
  • English language proficiency
  • Financial Verification

Course Credit Load Limits

The MBC Program allows students to register for a maximum of 12 credits per term.  The program recommends 6 credits per term for part time students.


Course Credential and Exam Waiver

MBC degree program students are able to request a credential waiver by contacting the program staff to request an undergraduate transcript review.  Students who receive a credential waiver are able to waive the core course requirement and will then be required to add an additional elective to their MBC degree plan.


Degree Requirements: Credits

MBC degree students complete 45 graduate credits and the MBC certificate students complete 18 graduate credits from the University of St. Thomas. 


Dropping from ALL Courses

MBC Students manage their enrollment through the Murphy Online self-service registration system.  In the case that a student decides to drop all courses for a spring or fall term, they must complete a Leave of Absence form.  This form is available through MBC student advisors and is stored in the student file once completed.  This leave of absence form allows the student to maintain their student accounts with the university while on leave. 


Graduate Study Admission: International Undergraduate Degree

In the case that the student did not complete their undergraduate or graduate (if applicable) degree in the United States, the MBC program requires the student request a transcript or marksheet be sent to the program directly from the university that they attended, a copy of their diploma, and an additional fee to cover the transcript evaluation.  The MBC program contracts with a transcript evaluator who evaluates the transcript based on US equivalency. 


Non-degree Student Status

A new student applicant that completes an application file after the MBC admissions review and before the term begins can be reviewed for possible non-degree status to be granted permission to enroll in one course for the next term. The complete file will then be reviewed for MBC degree or certificate admission status at the next, scheduled MBC admissions committee.


Transfer Course Criteria

Decisions about transfer courses in the MBC program are made on an individual basis.  Students must work with their academic advisor on matters involving possible transfer credits.
