Susan J. Marsnik is a professor in the Department of Ethics and Business Law. Her primary teaching responsibilities have focused on the legal environment of global business. In addition to working on global initiatives for the institution, she has taught short- and long-term study abroad programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a successful course based in the European Union which required students to negotiate an international contract with students from a German university. Marsnik has taught courses on international business law and comparative intellectual property law in specialized graduate programs at European universities and as a Fulbright Specialist at Beni Suef University in Egypt. She is currently a visiting professor at the University of Portsmouth in the U.K. and has held visiting appointments at the Université de Caen and the Université de Potier in France and Novosibirsk State University in Russia. In 2015, she was honored by the British Association of Law Teachers with a lifetime achievement award for contributions to legal education.

Marsnik holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Her research focuses on public and private international law by analyzing U.S. intellectual property law in the context of international and foreign laws, in which she is considered to be an expert. As such, she is regularly invited to participate in scholarly colloquia, contribute chapters to books and, in 2010, was invited to present her work to scholars, lawyers and judges at the first annual World Arbitration Forum on Intellectual Property in Jordan. Her work has been published in the discipline's top journals, books, encyclopedias and as part of legal practitioner and professional legal education programs. In 2013, she received the Hoeber Memorial Award for Excellence in Research. She regularly presents her research at national and international academic conferences and to local business and legal groups.

Before her academic career, Marsnik practiced law with a boutique firm in Minneapolis. She also has over a decade of other business and management experience, including a career in the book publishing industry, marketing legal services to Fortune 100 companies and top law firms, and consulting on law practice management and comparative law issues.
