Mary Maloney joined the Opus College of Business faculty in 2005. She teaches courses in international business and organizational behavior in the undergraduate and MBA programs. She advises undergraduate students concentrating in international business and is the faculty advisor for the International Business Club. She was a finalist for the Julie Hays Teaching Award, and has taught custom executive education programs in the Center for Business Excellence for 3M, Deluxe, Lawson, Polaris and US Bank.

Maloney's research focuses on the intra-organizational challenges of managing globally dispersed organizations. She is interested in teams and their role in helping MNEs achieve organizational goals and coordinate across geographic, cultural and organizational boundaries. She has published articles in scholarly journals, such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Small Group Research and Management International Review. Her work has won several fellowships and awards including: the Carolyn Dexter Award - Best International Paper, Academy of Management; Small Group Research Best Article Award 2009-2010 - Finalist (Runner-up); International Association of Conflict Management Outstanding Article Award - 3rd Place, Juran Fellowship, Rotary Fellowship for International Understanding.

Maloney received a B.A. in international relations from Carleton College, a master's in international affairs from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in strategic management and organizations from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Managers operating in a global environment need to manage the differences in doing business with people from other cultures. This goes beyond knowing that people have different customs, goals, and thought patterns. Today's managers need to be able to understand the cross-cultural subtleties imbedded in any interpersonal working relationships, regardless of whether operating in a foreign location, interacting with foreign nationals from a distance, or working with a culturally diverse American workforce. A manager's ability to understand, accept, and embrace these differences is critical to his or her success. This course is designed to address the complexities of intercultural management and facilitate the student's ability to manage successfully in a cross-cultural environment. Topics include intercultural ethics, intercultural negotiations, and work values.
