100 Strong Who Care: Building Bridges for the Next Generation of Leaders

Diversity partnerships between businesses and schools are leading the way towards re-engaging students. 100 Strong Who Care is an initiative of Minneapolis Public Schools that has developed partnerships with employee resource groups and other business units to provide “inspirational models” for students and encourage them to graduate college and pursue successful careers. 100 Strong Who Care has also designed and developed a business case competition for high schools that will provide businesses with opportunities to mentor the next generation of leaders for business careers.

About the Speaker

James C. Burroughs II is the executive director of equity and diversity for Minneapolis Public Schools.  In this role, he is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of the equity and diversity strategy for 6,000 employees and 34,000 students. With more than 20 years combined experience in public service, law, diversity and executive leadership, Burroughs applies his expertise to implement business partner diversity strategy (MPS Supplier Diversity); diversity partnerships with employee resource groups (100 Strong Who Care); and diversity and equity professional development (closing the achievement gap). He also oversees the integration plan and strategy for Minneapolis Public Schools and manages the Out 4 Good program that provides inclusion strategies for LGBT students, staff and families.

Burroughs is a 1989 graduate of Morehouse College, a Council on Legal Education Fellow (CLEO) and a 1992 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. He serves on the board of the Midwest Minority Supplier Development Council and the Illusion Theater.
