The University of St. Thomas, in partnership with Minneapolis-based Foster Klima & Company, LLC, and The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America is pleased to present the Girls Going Places® Entrepreneurship Conference at the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship, University of St. Thomas, on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30. p.m..

Sponsored by Guardian, creators of Girls Going Places, the conference is designed to mentor and educate young women ages 12 to 18 about entrepreneurship and financial independence and give local women in business a platform to mentor and inspire future female entrepreneurs. More than 100 students from middle and high schools throughout Minneapolis are registered to attend the conference.

More than 25 successful local women business owners and professionals will participate as conference mentors and guide the girls through various activities throughout the day. Attendees will play Hot Company®, a board game that introduces girls to the advantages and challenges of owning one’s own business. They will also team up for a marketing exercise called Product-in-a-Box®, where they will have the opportunity to design a product and present a marketing plan.

The conference is a part of Guardian’s national Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Program, which also includes an annual award program. The award program honors and grants $30,000 in cash prizes to 15 teen girls who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial abilities and service in the community. Since launching the Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Award Program in 2000, Guardian has awarded more than $260,000 to young entrepreneurs across the nation.

This year, the conference is made possible through the generous support of Guardian, Foster Klima & Company, LLC, the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Thomas and numerous individuals.

Guardian’s Girls Going Places® is virtual, allowing teen entrepreneurs and nominators unlimited access to program news, highlights and video on some of the Web’s best sites including YouTube, Facebook and MySpace (Key Word: Girls Going Places).
