Course Formats and Schedules

In the part-time MBA program, you will find that extensive discussion and collaboration are major parts of the classroom experience. This environment exemplifies the student-focused approach of St. Thomas while leveraging the experience and background of our graduate students.

Traditional Courses

During the 14-week fall and spring semesters, traditional Evening UST MBA classes usually meet once per week for three hours. Classes typically run from 6-9 p.m.

During the summer session, classroom courses typically meet for 10 weeks from late May to August, from 5:30-9:45 p.m. on weeknights.

Accelerated J-term classes typically meet one weeknight evening and all day Saturday throughout the month of January.

Blended Learning Courses

Designed to provide students with additional schedule flexibility, blended courses feature the latest online instructional technologies to complement less frequent classroom sessions on campus.

If enrolled in a blended format course, you will attend five, four-hour classroom meetings during the term, about half the classroom hours of a traditional format course. During the three weeks between on-campus meetings, you will still stay engaged with web-based presentations and interactions with peers and faculty, and upload required coursework.

Successful blended students enjoy connecting in person with fellow students, but also value the ability to learn and study independently on their own schedule. They are tech-savvy, comfortable with remote collaboration tools and able to self-direct portions of their learning experience.

Is the blended learning format appropriate for you?

Consider these important factors:

  • Given the limited amount of classroom hours, students are expected to attend every classroom session for the full period.
  • Expect required regular activities, interactions and deliverables during the three to four weeks between classroom meetings.
  • For blended courses, you must have ready access to a computer with high-speed Internet services for online interactions with your instructor and classmates, and to access course materials and assignments. Blackboard, the UST learning management system, is the hub for the blended courses and certain online activities, but other web-based software may also be used for presentations, conferencing and collaboration.
