From the Program Director
I would like to welcome you to the Health Care MBA program at the University of St. Thomas.
We are a nationally recognized and internationally accredited program established in 1992. Our courses are presented in an executive style, cohort format with an on-line/on-campus teaching model that provides the flexibility needed by working professionals. Students are clinicians and professionals working in the health care industry, drawn from a wide range of organizations and positions. They recognize that to find opportunities for innovation, collaboration and value creation, they must have an accurate understanding of the entire health care system and the underlying business models that support it. This is facilitated through collaborative learning with colleagues from all sectors and functional areas of health care. Our students and alumni form a distinguished, engaged professional network that shares a passion for the values associated with health care.
The program’s learning model is driven by four objectives.
The first is the presentation of business acumen. The curriculum covers a standard array of business topics important in addressing the complex business issues at play in today’s health care environment.
The second objective is ethical decision making. Students are supported in their efforts to apply professional standards to all aspects of management.
The third objective is critical thinking. Clarity of argument, precision in the use of data and systems thinking are encompassed in this objective.
The fourth is leadership practice. Emphasis is placed upon managing people in cultures of complexity and change. Classes are supplemented by our seminar series and networking events. We pride ourselves on creating a community of learning for those working in the health care environment.
Along with our solid academic offerings and networking opportunities, the program offers a number of unique functions that enhance the educational experience. Students are provided with iPads to assist them in mobilizing the classroom experience; they are individually evaluated on leadership and critical thinking traits prior to the start of the program in order to align a personal development agenda with the learning objectives of the program; and career coaching is available as needed.
For more information about the program, please contact us or stop by our Minneapolis campus. We would love to speak with you.
Best Wishes,
Jack Militello, Ph.D.
