Full-time UST MBA Scholarships

Dean’s Scholarships

The admissions committee automatically considers all applicants to the Full-time UST MBA Program for Dean’s Scholarships. Awards range from partial to full tuition, and admitted students who have been selected for a Dean’s Scholarship will receive an award letter in their admission packet.

Dean’s Scholarships are awarded to top candidates who will be outstanding contributors to the Full-time UST MBA Program. The admissions committee takes into account a wide variety of factors when awarding Dean’s Scholarships, including work experience, academic record, GMAT, recommendations, essays and the admission interview. Priority consideration for Dean’s Scholarships is given to applicants who apply by February 15, and the final application deadline for Dean’s Scholarship consideration is April 15.


Opus Scholars

For the fall of 2013, full-tuition scholarships will be awarded to top applicants who demonstrate an outstanding record of academic and professional achievement. Several additional half-tuition scholarships will also be awarded to other strong candidates who will make a positive impact on the full-time MBA program at the University of St. Thomas. 

Applicants must apply by February 1 to be considered for the Opus Scholars program; finalists will be invited to campus in early March for a full-day event including activities and interviews with the admissions committee, student life advisers, career services coaches and current student ambassadors.

Strong candidates will have the following characteristics:

  • Three or more years of full-time work experience after graduating from college
  • GMAT score above 600
  • Strong undergraduate academic record
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership potential

UST MBA Outreach Scholarship

For fall 2013, 15 full-tuition scholarships will be available to applicants to the Full-time UST MBA program who demonstrate a record of academic achievement, professional experience, high potential and commitment to diversity. Offered in collaboration with  the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) the UST MBA Outreach Scholarship Program will enhance access to a world-class MBA education for young professionals from a broad range of backgrounds, bringing valuable diversity of experience and perspective to the classroom and the professional world.

Priority consideration for Dean’s Scholarships is given to applicants who apply by February 15, and the final application deadline for Dean’s Scholarship consideration is April 15.

Scholarship applicants will be selected on the basis of:

  • Academic qualifications, as documented by college transcripts
  • Professional qualifications
  • Résumé 
  • GMAT scores
  • Essays
  • Letters of recommendation
  •  Ability to articulate their past contributions and future aspirations to increase diversity of representation in the classroom and in the professional world.

Military Consideration

The Full-time UST MBA office welcomes applications from men and women with military backgrounds and is honored to be chosen as a Military Friendly Business School by MBA.com. The Opus College of Business offers the following benefits to veterans:  

  • Waiver of the application fee for persons with a history of service
  • Special consideration when reviewing applications for the Dean's Scholarship
  • One-year deferment of acceptance and scholarship if admitted military students' plans are delayed by their service branch

In addition, the University of St. Thomas is participating in the new Yellow Ribbon Education Enhancement Program, a provision of the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.  St. Thomas provides unlimited Yellow Ribbon awards to graduate students in the Opus College of Business; this tuition benefit will be matched by the Veterans Administration.

Dean’s Service Scholarships

Starting Fall 2013, the Full-time UST MBA Program will award Dean’s Service Scholarships to admissible applicants who have completed or are scheduled to complete a service commitment through one of the organizations listed below. Every admitted candidate with one more years of service is guaranteed an $8,000 renewable two-year scholarship.

  • Lutheran Volunteer Corps
  • Mennonite Voluntary Service

You must indicate the period of your service on the “Additional Information” section of your application. You may be asked to provide documentation.
 
Service Scholars are also eligible for Full-time UST MBA’s other scholarship opportunities, ranging from $5000 to full tuition, depending on qualifications and scholarship availability.  


Deferred Admission Scholarships

Each academic year the Opus College of Business will award two scholarships to new graduates of the University of St. Thomas who take advantage of the UST MBA Deferred Admission Program. Two scholarships of $10,000 each will be awarded to UST graduating seniors who apply for the Opus Deferred Admission Scholarship by April 15 and commit to beginning their Full-time UST MBA program in two years. 

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on the basis of scholastic achievement and a 300-word essay in response to the question, "What led you to apply for deferred admission and what additional qualities do you hope to bring to the Full-time UST MBA Program after your two-year deferment?" Scholarship winners will receive a $2,500 scholarship for each of their four semesters in the Full-time UST MBA Program.

Graduate Assistantships for Second-Year Students

Each year, the Full-time UST MBA core faculty and various departments on campus select students to work roughly ten hours per week. Selected students must be in good academic standing and will exemplify academic excellence, commitment to the Full-time UST MBA program and strong peer relationships within their cohort.
