Full-time UST MBA
Meet Jill Schlangen
"The alumni connection that St. Thomas has around the area and elsewhere in the United States is immense."
I have always respected the reputation that St. Thomas has in the Twin Cities. I came to UST for the personal and hands-on learning experiences instead of choosing to go to the University of Minnesota, where I would be just another number. The alumni connection that St. Thomas has around the area and elsewhere in the United States is immense, and many networking opportunities are made available to us as students and alumni.
People of many different backgrounds come to St. Thomas. I am in class with students from Kenya, Nigeria, China and Russia, just to name a few. Through class discussions and social activities, I have already learned so much from my new friends. It is quite valuable to hear about their backgrounds and experiences and it enriches my learning experience. I have also found so many clubs and activities I want to be a part of in addition to the regular set of classes. Each club puts on different events and hosts different speakers through the year to take part in.
The faculty that St. Thomas has are amazing resources. They were very successful in their careers prior to teaching here and have come here specifically to pass on their guidance and to give us the tools to succeed. The faculty focuses on helping us become highly principled, ethical leaders. Each class incorporates ethics and business values into the curriculum through cases and class discussions. We are taught and guided to act ethically in every decision we make, whether it is inside or outside of the classroom.
My UST MBA education has helped me discover different resources and to go after what I want out of my future career. Through all the classes and lots of teamwork, I am becoming a better-rounded individual.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was a credit analyst for M&I Bank for two years following graduation. I will have an emphasis in Finance here at St. Thomas. With my UST MBA, I plan to work for an investment firm as a financial analyst or in the finance department of a large corporation in the Twin Cities.
