100 Years of Innovation

Today's M.B.A.s can credit 19th century innovators such as Henry Ford and Frederick Winslow Taylor for their education. Ford's and Taylor's insistence upon automation and standardized work patterns helped usher in the industrial age and gave birth to the concept of scientific management—the idea that there was a formulaic, "right" way to do business . An increased desire by organizations to approach business operations in a scientific manner led, around the turn of the century, to the foundation of the first business school at the University of Pennsylvania and the first graduate school of management at Dartmouth. Since then, the M.B.A. degree has received worldwide recognition as the premier degree for business professionals.

2008 - 2009 Mayo Scholars Selected

The 2008 - 2009 Mayo Scholars were announced last week. This year's Scholars are Amy (Li Pin) Huang, Laura Kalies, Andrew Schwartz, Wendell Spence and Qin Tang. Congratulations to all!

The Mayo Scholars Program offers an opportunity for M.B.A. students to manage a team of selected undergraduate science and business students. The teams will research specific projects submitted by Mayo Clinic professionals through the Mayo Ventures and Licensing activity. Participating schools are Augsburg College, Carleton College, Concordia College (Moorhead), Gustavus Adolphus College, Macalester College, St. John's University/College of St. Benedict's, St. Mary's University, St. Olaf College and the University of St. Thomas.

The program is a collaborative effort between the Mayo Clinic and several Minnesota private colleges and universities, with financial support from the Medtronic Foundation and the Mayo Clinic, and administrative support from the Minnesota Private College Council.
