Full-time UST MBA
Academics
The Full-time UST MBA program has been carefully designed to mold high-potential students into ethical business professionals capable of impacting their organizations and their communities. Our alumni do more than make decisions. They make a difference.
Business success grows from a combination of experience and knowledge. It is important to know both the "why" and "how" behind business practice. The St. Thomas approach includes both a sound foundation in key business concepts and the opportunity to develop practical skills. Because of our commitment to applied business academics, we provide a tightly integrated business education experience. Through case studies, state-of-the-art business simulations and real-world projects, students are presented with genuine business challenges and placed in the position of decision makers.
A Tightly Integrated Business Education Experience
Core curriculum integration
Individual courses in the Full-time UST MBA do not stand alone as disjointed academic requirements. The curriculum is a package of tightly woven business concepts that overlap and influence one another. Faculty from different subject areas team-teach in many classes to provide students with a holistic view of the interworkings of the complex environment in which organizations operate. For example, a single Harvard Business Review case study is examined in marketing, accounting and organizational behavior courses to ensure that students understand the complexities associated with high-level decision making in an organization.
Full-circle applied feedback
In the Full-time UST MBA, students earn more than a first-rate academic education. They gain a competitive edge by polishing the communication, leadership and ethical skills that are highly valued by corporate recruiters in today’s fast-paced business world. Labs are tied to core classes to allow students to apply their enhanced proficiencies within core businesss functions and receive full-circle feedback from professional experts and subject-specific faculty.
Career coaching and faculty mentors
Throughout the 21-month Full-time UST MBA experience, faculty act as learning coaches to challenge and support students in their academic and professional goals. Career Services staff and faculty with solid business experience guide students in selecting elective track courses that align with summer internships. This personalized career coaching leads to the ultimate M.B.A. goal—a rewarding career. This integrated, hands-on approach to business education differentiates St. Thomas from many other M.B.A. programs and provides an interactive and strong foundation for success.
Capstone business simulation: from first semester to last
A computer-based sophisticated business simulation acts as a launching pad for students in the first semester and a comprehensive capstone experience in the final semester. Students work in teams led by student CEOs to make weekly decisions about opportunities, product development, strategy, production and positioning in the global marketplace. Weekly feedback is given on sales results, market share, stock prices and bottom-line profits. This unique simulation enables students to more fully integrate all the elements of our solid M.B.A. program: teamwork, analytical skills, communication skills, core disciplinary knowledge, strategic thinking and effective decision-making.
Business connections and professional events
The Full-time UST MBA curriculum is infused with numerous professional activities and experiences designed to augment learning outside of the classroom and connect full-time students with the business world and prominent industry leaders. Corporate tours, on- and off-campus networking events, prestigious executive speakers, practical career seminars and student organizations are just a few ways that a Full-time UST MBA student’s experience is professionally enhanced.
