The Real Estate Executive Insights Series is presented by the Opus College of Business Master of Science Degree in Real Estate program. This series invites speakers from the real estate industry to provide valuable information and discussion about hot topics and current trends in real estate. This is a free program and is open to the public.
Skip Wyer will be examining real estate investment management solutions and how they can help financial institutions and investors wishing to invest in new real estate opportunities or dispose of surplus commercial real estate assets. He will be discussing the role that corporate capital, discretionary fund capital (primarily high-net worth and family offices) and formal institutional co-investment relationships play in today’s investment climate.

Mr. Skip Wyer
Mr. Wyer manages Oppidan Asset Management, which provides real estate investment management solutions to financial institutions and investors wishing to invest in new real estate opportunities or dispose of surplus commercial real estate assets. Oppidan Asset Management invests using corporate capital, discretionary fund capital (primarily high-net worth and family offices) and formal institutional co-investment relationships.
With more than 20 years of real estate and alternative investment experience, Mr. Wyer is an experienced investment executive with the rare ability to combine strategic vision and leadership with tactical financial operating expertise, platform development, private investment management and direct operating partner experience. He has a proven track record of establishing productive cross-enterprise alliances, managing high-yield investments through their full investment cycle and improving investment performance through creation and execution of asset management and disposition plans. His experience and relationships across multiple geographies and with a diverse range of real estate and investment types provide valuable perspectives and creativity to the process of sourcing, managing and disposing of real estate assets.
Mr. Wyer joined Oppidan in 2009 after five years with Värde Partners, Inc. where he was vice president and portfolio manager of real estate investing for North America and Latin America. At its peak, Mr. Wyer’s portfolio exceeded $600 million of invested capital. In this capacity, Mr. Wyer partnered with real estate operators, including land developers, multi-family operators, industrial and commercial developers, hotel developers and operators, and specialty real estate finance companies.
Prior to joining Värde, Mr. Wyer was a senior vice president at North American Capital Markets where, as an investment banker, he specialized in structuring and arranging debt and equity for specialty finance and real estate companies. He was with Cargill Financial for five years as a structured products trader and an “entrepreneur-in-residence.” Mr. Wyer was also vice president at Piper Jaffray, Inc. where, as an investment banker, he originated and structured private loan transactions in the asset securitization and project finance areas. He spent 11 years in Boston with American Finance Group, where he originated and invested in commercial aircraft, and with Shawmut Bank as a commercial lender and credit analyst.
Mr. Wyer earned a B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont.
