Real Estate Executive Insight Series: Office Market

The Real Estate Executive Insights Series is presented by the Opus College of Business Master of Science Degree in Real Estate program. This series invites speakers from the real estate industry to provide valuable information and discussion about hot topics and current trends in real estate. This is a free program and is open to the public.

Jim Gearen will share his observations about the office market in the Twin Cities.  From an owner's perspective, he will discuss how the changes in the commercial real estate  have affected office property operations and values.  He will also share his thoughts as to when the market will recover and what the recovery might look like.

Presenter Biography

Mr. Jim Gearen
Mr. Gearen is the executive vice president and head of marketing and leasing for the overall Zeller Realty Group.  He is also co-investor and general partner with Paul Zeller in the ownership of the company’s properties.  Since 1988, Mr. Gearen has worked with property acquisition, leasing and project development activities for Zeller Realty Group.  In 1992, he relocated to Minnesota to direct the firm’s activities in the Twin Cities.  These properties include LaSalle Plaza, the International Centre Complex, One Financial Plaza in Minneapolis, Wells Fargo Place in St. Paul, Wells Fargo Plaza and Highland Bank West in Bloomington and Waters Phase I in Eagan. Mr. Gearen has closed more than 800 leases in Minnesota, totaling more than six million square feet with an aggregate value in excess of half a billion dollars.  

Prior to joining Zeller Realty Group, Mr. Gearen was a broker with Scribner & Co. in Chicago, specializing in tenant representation and the leasing and sales of office buildings in downtown Chicago.  During his five years at Scribner, he participated in 1.75 million square feet of transactions valued in excess of $640 million. 

Mr. Gearen graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of St. Thomas and has done graduate studies in real estate practices.  He serves as a trustee of the University of St. Thomas, as chair of the UST Board for the Center for Catholic Studies, and a member of the UST Real Estate Advisory Board.
