Career Opportunities, Challenges and Development in the Corporate World

The duties in corporate real estate are diverse. Corporate real estate specialists work with space users on a variety of issues and concerns to facilitate making a product, offering a service and supporting corporate competitive advantage.  Real estate specialists are involved in leasing and tenant space utilization as well as purchasing and contracting for goods and services used in the corporate setting.  Donn Hagmann and Maria Maughn will talk about their career path in the area of corporate real estate and will answer questions regarding careers in corporate real estate.     

Presenter Biographies

Donn Hagmann has worked at Medtronic Inc since 1978. During those 31 years, he has held various positions in the facilities related field, including director of Real Estate and Construction, contracts manager, facility project manager and facility engineer. He has witnessed Medtronic's revenue grow from $100 million per year to $14.6 billion per year. Hagmann has been involved in new facility construction projects, collectively exceeding $1 billion, throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He has a bachelor of science degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI, and an M.B.A. from the University of St Thomas.


Maria Maughn has been managing real estate transactions throughout the United States, Latin America and Canada for Medtronic over the past four years. Prior to joining Medtronic, she provided commercial real estate brokerage and advisory services from the Twin Cities office of a leading global commercial real estate services company.  Maughn holds the CCIM designation from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute and recently earned the CoreNet Global MCR (Masters Corporate Real Estate) designation.  She has served as an adjunct instructor for the Commercial Real Estate Specialist Program (CRESP) at the University of St. Thomas, is a graduate of Wellesley College and completed the University of St. Thomas Mini MBA Program certificate.
