Master of Business Communication
Degree Plan & Requirements
A candidate for a Master of Business Communication degree will complete 15 three-credit courses. Nine required courses provide a broad business knowledge base and six electives offer opportunity for study in specialized areas of communication.
Core Courses (Nine required)
GBEC 515 Principles of Economic Analysis
BETH 525 Communication Ethics
MGMT 600 Management of Organizational Behavior
MKTG 600 Marketing Management
ACCT 601 Financial Accounting
OPMT 601 Data Analysis and Decision Making
BCOM 610 Communication Research
BLAW 710 Communication Law
BCOM 805 Communication Leadership Priorities
When a required course repeats learning already completed in undergraduate courses, a student may apply to waive a requirement (through test-outs and transcript evaluation) and substitute another course.
Electives (Six required)
These are the courses that make each degree unique. A degree student chooses six electives from the full UST MBC curriculum to complete the degree plan. One student may choose an area of concentration while another will select a variety of courses to broaden his or her knowledge. Each degree plan should reflect the student's own goals.
Course Sequence
Most courses may be taken in the order that the student judges most appropriate for professional and personal development. Course numbering does not dictate course sequence, although some courses carry prerequisites or a recommended sequence. Talk to an advisor about the best sequence for you.
Capstone Course
BCOM805 Communication Leadership Priorities is taken as one of the final core courses. The course uses cases to explore the challenges faced by 21st century communications professionals as business leaders. Students will explore in depth a crucial business/communication problem or issue that requires definition, research and analysis.
Skills Courses
Students admitted with quantitative scores below the 40th percentile on the GMAT or GRE may be required to complete a math skills course or test as a part of their MBC degree plan.
Degree Completion
A cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 is required to earn the UST MBC degree. You must complete your degree in seven calendar years. Continuous enrollment is expected during fall and spring semesters. If you must interrupt your studies, you are required to request a leave of absence and provide a concrete plan for timely resumption.
