Master of Business Communication

Master of Business Communication

About the Program

From the Program Director

You may have heard that 95% of recent MBC graduates had new jobs or promotions within eight months of graduation. Let me tell you why.

The most successful professional communicators inside organizations, or as consultants, possess a thorough understanding of the business contexts within which communications efforts occur. The confines of undergraduate programs make it difficult to fully prepare an individual to completely understand both the language of business and the communication strategies and skills necessary to expertly fulfill organizational goals. Even a few years of experience as a communications practitioner leaves gaps, and doesn’t address the need for building leadership and management skills.

The UST Master of Business Communication Program provides a unique and powerful combination - some core courses shared with MBA students, and communications courses specifically developed with the business communicator in mind. No other degree offers this integrated approach that develops in-depth business acumen and communication expertise at the same time.

After more than 25 years of educating Twin Cities communication professionals, you can find MBC alumni serving as communications leaders:

  • In companies such as Wells Fargo, General Mills, Target, Best Buy, Medtronic, Cargill, 3M and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
  • In agencies such as Weber Shandwick, Carmichael Lynch, Colle & McVoy,  Tunheim Partners and Padilla Spear Beardsley.
  • In organizations such as WCCO, Star Tribune, MN Public Radio, MN Zoo, Fairview Health Services, Lutheran Social Services and the City of Bloomington.

Whether your long-term career goals include leadership in a company or nonprofit, or enjoying the creative independence of communication consulting, an MBC degree delivers the expertise, skills and network of professional contacts that can take you there.

Students use the program for a variety of reasons.

  • Communicators expand their communication expertise into a solid knowledge of business.
  • Business managers extend their business experience into communications-related functions.
  • Professionals from other fields acquire the power of strategic communication to drive productivity in any enterprise.
