Event Recap: 2011 Hesburgh Lecture featuring Dr. Carolyn Woo
Wednesday, August 10, 2011
The Veritas Institute, formerly known as the SAIP Institute, and the Notre Dame Club of Minnesota co-sponsored the 2011 Hesburgh Lecture featuring Dr. Carolyn Woo, dean of the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business and future president and chief executive officer of Catholic Relief Services. Dr. Woo’s lecture, “Grace in the Competitive World,” touched on the highly competitive practices in our culture. In light of these practices, Dr. Woo questioned the role of grace in our work and behavior, and discussed ways to cultivate grace in contexts dominated by winning and competition.
T. Dean Maines, president of the Veritas Institute, welcomed the audience and shared some common threads between the Institute's work and Woo's accomplishments in corporate social responsibility. Maines then introduced Dean Christopher Puto, dean of the Opus College of Business and former dean of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown. More than 120 people attended the lecture and reception at the downtown Minneapolis campus of the University of St. Thomas.
