The Business Ethics Assessment Method (BEAM) – The BEAM is an organizational assessment and improvement process based on ISO26000, an international standard that provides guidance on corporate ethics and social responsibility. The BEAM helps leaders perform an evidence-based ethical appraisal of their organization, one that highlights opportunities to more fully embed vital moral values within its operating policies, processes, and practices. In this way, the tool supports efforts to build and sustain a corporate culture that promotes responsible business practice. Testing of the BEAM is expected to commence in 2012.
The Catholic Identity Matrix (CIM) – The CIM is an organizational assessment and improvement process designed to help Catholic health care leaders strengthen the Catholic identity of their organizations. The CIM yields a qualitative portrait of the current state of an organization’s management system, and a quantitative appraisal of the extent to which its operating processes are shaped by six principles for Catholic health care. This information allows leaders to identify critical improvement opportunities, and to formulate initiatives that will help their organization more fully embody the moral aspirations characteristic of Catholic health care. Periodic use of the CIM enables Catholic healthcare organizations to establish a discipline of sustained, ongoing improvement in response to the challenge of mission integration. The CIM is the product of a collaboration between Ascension Health and the Veritas Institute, with support from the University of St. Thomas’ John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought and the Gonzaga Ethics Institute, formerly at Gonzaga University.
The eInsight Ethics Quiz – The Veritas Institute (formerly known as the SAIP Institute), in partnership with the James J. Hill Reference Library, has developed eQuiz, a 21 question survey that takes about 20 minutes to complete. eQuiz is designed for executives who are looking for ideas on how to develop a culture that supports business ethics and social responsibility. The results identify some actions that an organization can take to build such a culture.
